When did Project Community Begin?

Project Community began on October 6, 2001 as a proposed project that would serve low-income residents in the Southside district of Richmond. Project Community later decided to change its status from a project to a community-based organization in order to prolong its vision and goals to change communities, not only in the Southside district of Richmond, but the entire City of Richmond and more.

What has Project Community done?

Project Community in its first year recruited over 50 youth and adult volunteers through volunteer fairs, memberships with recruitment organizations and promotion. Project Community has also recruited over 100 participants through career fairs and promotional events who have successfully completed our programs. Project Community, through its foundation of community service initiatives, has taken part in a number of community projects that shared the vision to change the lives of Virginians in not only the City of Richmond, but also the entire Commonwealth Virginia. In April of 2001, Project Community’s first community service event took place in collaboration with the City of Richmond’s, Department of Community Development; Christmas in April program. Before the Christmas in April event, Project Community initiated a test pilot portion of CTAAE (Computer Technology as an Explorer), which evaluated participating youth in their knowledge of technology. The program proved successful as participants learned up-to-date technological information, built a CTAAE website throughout the class, and followed up with shared testimonials on how much their SOL’s (Standards of Learning) scores in technology improved remarkably. .

How many years has Project Community been around?

Project Community, now in its eighth year of providing professional and dedicated services to the community, is looking forward to another year of achievement, change, elevation, and success. Project Community has currently become a national umbrella and currently working on the process of becoming an international umbrella organization as we work towards our vision, “to change the world, one community at a time” and achieve it!.
